Abstract
Media and Information literacy have recently received much interest, and they are being
recognized as critical strategic organizational resources and skills that employees need to
obtain to function at their workplaces. Yet, the role of employees' literacy seems neglected in
current literature. This paper aims to explore the role of the relationship between media and
information literacy and the employees' job performance in Nigeria as a developing nation.
The study used a quantitative survey research approach using an online survey questionnaire
to collect data from the academic staff of nine public colleges of education in Southeast
Nigeria. The population of the study is 3200 and using purposive sampling technique to
select the sample size of 725 respondents. The study measures the relationship between the
variables using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and correlation analysis
to analyze the data. Findings reveal a significant correlation between media literacy and
information literacy skills and the job performance of academic staff at 0.01 level. The
