Abstract
This research examines the transformative influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on libraries
and the empowerment of librarians within the context of the Fifth Industrial Revolution. As
advanced technologies rapidly converge, this period introduces both challenges and
opportunities for the library profession. The study explores how AI is reshaping librarians'
roles and responsibilities, the critical skills needed for effective AI utilization, and the effects
of AI-driven empowerment on library services and professional growth. Employing a
descriptive research design, the study focused on librarians in Ondo State, selecting a
purposive sample of 50 librarians from a population of over 100. Data were collected through
a structured questionnaire validated for content and face validity, with a reliability coefficient
of 0.82, indicating strong internal consistency. Analysis using mean scores revealed that AI is
substantially transforming librarians' functions, positioning them as digital information
navigators, data analysts, and educators in AI literacy. Key competencies identified include
mastery of AI tools, data analysis, and ethical considerations in AI deployment. The findings
conclude that AI enhances librarians' efficiency, broadens their service capabi lities, and
elevates their professional status. The study recommends integrating AI -focused training into
library education curricula and investing in ongoing professional development to prepare
librarians for success in an AI-driven library environment.
