Abstract
The study determined the influence of institutional factors and research productivity of academic
librarians in federal university libraries in South-South and South-East, Nigeria. The specific
objectives of the study was to determine the influence of research grant, availability of facilities and
workload on research productivity of academic librarians in federal university libraries in South-
South and South-East, Nigeria. The ex-post facto research design was adopted for the study. The
population of the study comprised all academic librarians in all the federal university libraries in
South-South and South-East, Nigeria numbering 350 out of which 289 academic librarians were
purposively used as sample size. An instrument titled: Institutional Factors and Research
Productivity Questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. The data collected from the field
was analysed using mean and standard deviation as well as independent t-test. The findings of the
study showed that research grant, availability of facilities and workload influenced research
productivity of academic librarians.Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that
research grant, availability of facilities and workload have significant influence on research
productivity of academic librarians in federal university libraries in South-South and South-East,
Nigeria. Consequent upon the findings, it is recommended among others that Federal Government
and relevant agencies such as TETFund should increase and ensure timely disbursement of research
grants to universities. This will empower academic librarians to undertake innovative and high-
impact research projects, reducing over-dependence on external funding agencies.
