Abstract:
This study investigated the utilization of library and information resources for course content
development by academic staff in tertiary institutions in Imo State, Nigeria. Two research
questions were posed and two hypothesis were formulated to guide the study. The literature was
reviewed under the major concepts of the study. The study is descriptive survey adopting
correlational method. This study was conducted in six tertiary institutions in Imo State with the
population of 3,179 academic staff, deriving the sample size of 354 respondents using Taro
yamanne statistical formular. Data collected were analysed using mean scores and Pearson ―r‖
was used to test the level of relationship. The findings revealed that the extent of utilization of
library and information resources by academic staff is very high. And that there is significant
relationship between course content development and utilization of information resources. Based
on the findings, the researcher recommended that academic staff should pay closer attention to
developing course content; define the course goal; select relevant instructional materials, and
possibly do an improvisation of instructional resource where the need arises.
