Abstract
This study examined personal attitude and information seeking anxiety in library use among
secondary school students in Afijio LGA, Oyo state, Nigeria. The study employed descriptive
research survey method. The population of the study consists of public secondary school
students while a sample of 115 students were randomly drawn from 6 schools. Data collected
was analysed based on frequency count, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The
findings revealed that textbooks, past question papers and dictionaries were mostly available
and frequently used while network, electronic materials and newspaper were scarcely
available. Similarly, the study revealed that the respondents use library for reading and
examination preparation. The study further revealed that students cultivate the habit of
bringing soft drinks to the libraries, mutilate library materials as well as hide information
materials that are highly scarce from the reach of other users. The study also revealed that
respondents are always unsure and confused about the relevant materials when searching for
information materials in the library. The study, therefore, concluded that respondents in the
study use library for the purpose of reading and preparing for examinations. It was
recommended that public secondary schools in Afijio LGA should subscript to up -to-date
resources across all subjects as well as electronic resources to encourage patronage. Students
should also be given proper orientation on the use of library to handle well information
resources in the library.
