Abstract
The purpose of this study was to review and synthesize scholarly and policy literature on
emerging entrepreneurship opportunities for library and information science (LIS)
professionals within Nigeria's digital economy. The paper examined a broad range of LISbased
entrepreneurial pathways, including information consultancy, digital content and
publishing services, knowledge management, data-driven services, training ventures, and
platform-enabled information services. A narrative review approach was adopted, and
relevant literature published between 2019 and 2026 was analyzed to identify key
opportunity areas, professional prospects, and constraints influencing entrepreneurial
engagement among LIS professionals. The review further examined strategic models that
supported sustainable LIS entrepreneurship, focusing on capacity building, curriculum and
training reforms, and policy, institutional and professional body interventions. The findings
of the review showed that although LIS professionals possessed competencies relevant to
multiple forms of digital entrepreneurship, limitations related to skills orientation,
institutional support, curriculum design, and policy integration constrained effective
participation. The paper contributed a structured synthesis of current evidence and offered
strategic insights for strengthening LIS entrepreneurship as a pathway for professional
sustainability and national development in Nigeria's digital economy.
