Abstract
The paper investigated health information seeking behaviour of antenatal women in
public hospitals in Makurdi local government area, Benue State, Nigeria. Three (3)
research questions, a theory and descriptive survey research design guided the study. A
sample size of 380 was drawn from the studied population of 7,764 registered similiterate
and literate antenatal women within the study area using Taro Yamane's 1969
formula for infinite population. Purposive sampling technique, simple random sampling
technique and snowball sampling technique were adopted for the study. A self-developed
36 items questionnaire made up of three (3) clusters- A, B and C were employed. The data
collected was analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency count, percentages, mean
and standard deviation. The findings revealed different ways by which antenatal women
exhibit their health information seeking behaviour, sources of seeking health information
and the challenges faced by antenatal women in seeking health information in public
hospitals. The study concluded that antenatal women usually exhibit some behaviours
while sourcing for health information in public hospitals in Makurdi local government
area of Benue State, Nigeria but these efforts were faced with challenges.
