Abstract
The rapid expansion of the creator economy has disrupted traditional advertising models,
positioning content creators and social media influencers as central intermediaries
between brands and consumers. This conceptual paper examines how influencer
integration is reshaping advertising strategy and brand communication in the digital age,
shifting persuasion from mass-media formats toward personalised, relationship-driven
content embedded within creators' digital presence. Drawing on theories of parasocial
interaction, source credibility, and platform-based marketing, the paper argues that
influencers function not merely as endorsers but as co-creators of brand meaning, blending
authenticity with commercial intent in ways that challenge advertising norms around
disclosure, trust, and message control. The analysis explores how brands integrate
influencers across the marketing funnel, from awareness-building sponsored content to
conversion-driven affiliate partnerships, while navigating tensions between creative
authenticity and brand consistency. The paper further interrogates emerging challenges,
including audience scepticism toward sponsored content, regulatory demands for
disclosure, platform algorithm volatility, and difficulty measuring influencer return on
investment against traditional metrics. Synthesising perspectives from advertising,
marketing communication, and digital media scholarship, the paper proposes a framework
for understanding influencer-integrated advertising as a distinct communicative practice
rather than an extension of celebrity endorsement. It concludes that brands seeking
sustained relevance must rethink advertising strategy around authenticity, platform-native
storytelling, and long-term creator relationships, positioning the creator economy as a
defining force in advertising's digital transformation.
